Privacy Policy

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
Last updated: [LAST UPDATED]

This Privacy Policy explains how Quarterback Magazine LLC ("Quarterback Magazine," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information through QBmagRANKINGS, including the rankings website at [QBMAGRANKINGS URL], the QB Report Card, profiles, rankings, emails, texts and related services (the "Services"). It is part of our Terms of Service.

Most of the quarterbacks we rank are minors, so we hold ourselves to a high standard. The short version:

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you give us in the QB Report Card or by email, phone or text

About the quarterback: - name, email address, graduating class and grade, school, state, and city (if given) - height and weight - profile photo and other photos, highlight film links (for example, Hudl or YouTube) - social media handle (optional) - on-field stats (completion %, yards, attempts, touchdowns, interceptions, rushing yards) - unweighted GPA, honors, AP classes and academic awards - camps, combines, training, offseason competition (7-on-7, spring football, other sports, throwing leagues) - college visits - volunteer and service hours and where - how the quarterback helps at home, including chores, caring for siblings or a part-time job - your QBmag ID, if you already have a profile

About the parent or guardian: name, email address, phone number, and the consent you give.

About references: the name and phone number or email of a coach or teacher you list. We use this only to verify information (Section 2) and never publish it.

When you contact us or appeal a score: what you tell us.

When you buy a Paid Service (through quarterbackmagazine.com or another order page): name, billing details and purchase history. Payment card details are collected and stored by our payment processor, not by us.

1.2 Information we collect automatically

When you visit the site or open our emails, we and our service providers may automatically collect: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, links clicked, referring site, approximate location (city or state, from IP address), and dates and times of visits. We collect this through log files, cookies and similar technologies (Section 6).

1.3 Information from other sources

To verify a Report Card, we may get information from the references you list, the quarterback's school or coaches, and public sources such as MaxPreps, Hudl, school athletics sites, news stories and public social media. If the quarterback already has a Quarterback Magazine profile, we use the information in that profile to create or update the QBmagRANKINGS profile.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to: - verify information submitted, including by calling or emailing the family and contacting references; - score and rank quarterbacks under our published criteria, and handle appeals; - publish profiles and Rankings, and create editorial content about the Rankings (articles, graphics and social media posts), as described in Section 3 and our Terms; - communicate with you about your profile, ranking updates, verification and the Services; - obtain and record parental consent, including verifiable parental consent for children under 13; - provide Paid Services you buy and process payments; - send marketing about Quarterback Magazine services to parents and adult quarterbacks who have not opted out (we do not direct marketing to children under 13); - keep the Services safe, prevent fraud and false submissions, and enforce our Terms; - improve the Services, including understanding how the site is used (using aggregated or de-identified data where possible); and - comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use personal information about minors to build advertising profiles, and we do not use Report Card information to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects (such as admissions or scholarship decisions). Rankings are our editorial opinion and are reviewed by people.

We do not use whether a family has purchased a Paid Service when scoring or ranking. Scorers cannot see membership status.

3. What we publish

Rankings and profiles are public. Anyone, including college coaches, other families and the media, can see them.

4. How we share information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined in California and other state privacy laws. We have not done so in the past 12 months.

We share personal information only: - Publicly, as described in Section 3. - With service providers who help us run the Services and are bound to use the information only for us, such as: form and survey tools (Typeform), spreadsheet and cloud storage (for example, Google or Microsoft), website hosting, email and text messaging providers, payment processors, and IT and security providers. - With references and schools, only as needed to verify information you submitted (for example, confirming that a quarterback attended a camp). - Within Quarterback Magazine LLC, which operates QBmagRANKINGS, quarterbackmagazine.com and related services. - For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith it is required by law, subpoena or court order, or needed to protect the safety of any person (especially a minor), to investigate fraud, or to enforce our Terms. - In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this Policy's protections. For children under 13, we will seek new parental consent if required. - With your consent or at your direction.

Partners and sponsors (such as those listed on our site) do not receive personal information about quarterbacks from us unless a parent or adult quarterback asks us to share it. They never affect Rankings.

We do not sell or rent lists of quarterbacks or families to colleges, recruiting services, camps or anyone else.

5. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy: - Active profiles: while the profile is active and for as long as the quarterback is in a class we rank. - Report Card details used for scoring (references, detailed answers, parent phone numbers): until 12 months after the quarterback's last season in our Rankings, or sooner on request, then deleted. - Children under 13: see our written retention rule in Section 8.6. - Ranking archives: we may keep a quarterback's name, class, school, state and past ranks in historical Ranking lists, unless you ask us to remove them or the law requires deletion. - Purchase records: as long as needed for tax, accounting and legal purposes (generally up to 7 years). - Backups: deleted information may remain in backups for a limited time until they are overwritten.

6. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to run the site, remember your settings (for example, the class tab you last viewed), and understand site usage through analytics.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels on QBmagRANKINGS ranking or Report Card pages. If we ever advertise our Services on social media, we may use those platforms' tools to reach adults (parents and coaches), but we will not use information collected from a child under 13 for advertising, and we will update this Policy before adding any advertising technology to the site.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. Because we do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals in a standardized way, we rely on GPC instead.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including limiting access to staff who need it, using reputable service providers, and requiring strong passwords and two-factor authentication on accounts that hold Report Card data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

8. Children under 13 (COPPA notice)

This section is our notice to parents under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC's COPPA Rule. Some Rising Stars quarterbacks (6th, 7th and 8th grade) may be under 13.

8.1 Who collects it. Quarterback Magazine LLC, [MAILING ADDRESS], info@qbmagrankings.com, [PHONE]. We are the only operator collecting personal information through QBmagRANKINGS.

8.2 What we collect from or about a child under 13, and why. The Report Card information in Section 1.1, collected to verify, score, rank and publish the child's Rising Stars profile as described in Sections 2 and 3. We do not require a child to give more information than is reasonably necessary to take part.

8.3 Parent submits, parent consents. The Report Card for a child under 13 must be submitted by the parent or guardian, using the parent's email address. We collect the parent's contact information first so we can notify the parent and get consent. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental involvement, we will delete it (other than the parent's contact information needed to seek consent) unless we get verifiable parental consent within a reasonable time.

8.4 Verifiable parental consent. Before we publish or share any information about a child under 13, we obtain verifiable parental consent using a method the FTC Rule permits, such as: - a consent form signed by the parent and returned to us by email, mail or e-signature; - a phone or video call between the parent and our trained staff; or - another method permitted by the FTC Rule. Because Rising Stars profiles are public, we do not rely on email-only consent.

8.5 Disclosure to third parties. We disclose a child's information publicly (Section 3) and to service providers that help us run the Services (Section 4). We do not disclose a child's information to any other third party, and if we ever wanted to, we would first ask for the parent's separate consent. Consenting to the Rising Stars profile is never conditioned on consenting to any other disclosure.

8.6 Written retention rule for children under 13. We keep a child's personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Rising Stars profile. Detailed Report Card answers, reference contacts and parent phone numbers are deleted within 12 months after the end of the season in which they were submitted, unless the parent updates the Report Card for a new season. All of a child's information is deleted promptly on the parent's request (Section 8.7), except ranking archives for which the parent has not requested removal.

8.7 Parents' rights. A parent or guardian may at any time: review the personal information we have about their child; ask us to correct or delete it; and refuse to let us collect or use it further (which will end the child's profile). Email info@qbmagrankings.com from the parent email on file or call [PHONE]. We will verify that you are the child's parent before acting.

8.8 No advertising to children. We do not show behavioral advertising to children and do not use a child's information to target ads.

9. Teens (13 to 17)

We treat teens with extra care. We require a parent or guardian to be involved in every Report Card, we never sell or share teens' personal information for advertising, and we do not send marketing texts to a minor's phone number.

California minors. If you are a California resident under 18 and have posted content on our Services, you may ask us to remove it under California Business and Professions Code § 22581 by emailing info@qbmagrankings.com. Removal may not ensure complete deletion (for example, if others have copied it).

10. Your privacy choices and rights

Everyone. Wherever you live, you (or, for a minor, a parent or guardian) may ask us to: - access the personal information we have about you or your quarterback; - correct inaccurate information; - delete information and remove a profile; - get a copy of information you gave us in a portable format; and - opt out of marketing emails (use the unsubscribe link) or texts (reply STOP).

Email info@qbmagrankings.com with your request. We will verify your identity (for example, by confirming the parent email or phone number on file) and respond within 45 days. If we deny a request, we will tell you why, and where state law gives you the right to appeal, you may appeal by replying to our decision with "Appeal" in the subject line.

State privacy laws. Residents of California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws (for example, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and others) may have additional rights, including the right to know the categories of personal information collected and disclosed, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising and profiling. Because we do not sell or share personal information, use sensitive information only to provide the Services, and do not profile for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, we honor these rights as described above. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of the agent's authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

California disclosure (last 12 months). Categories collected: identifiers (name, email, phone, QBmag ID); personal records (school, class); characteristics (age range via grade or class); education information (GPA, honors); internet activity (site usage); approximate geolocation; audio/visual information (photos, film); professional or employment information (a part-time job, if listed); and inferences (our Rankings). Sources, purposes and recipients are described in Sections 1, 2 and 4. Sold or shared: none.
